The Life and Times of Veronic Staley

Vernonica Staley was recently sentenced to life for the murder of Aljosa (Al) Memovic. She was thirty four years old at the time of the murder and was an aspiring singer. They had dated for some time, but in the previous year and half their relationship had deteriorated considerably. Friends had in fact warned Al to not meet up with Veronica. She had set up the telling him she had some of things to return and offered up “Dessert” after the lunch, according to the Houston Chronicle. While not much is known exactly about the length or nature of their relationship, relatives testified that Staley had deep mental issues after trauma she suffered in childhood. The prosecutors acknowledged she had issues, but said they were not sufficient enough to impact her sentencing. This is as it should be. Dear Jaycee, Thank you for sharing your story. Thank you for being so courageous and putting into words what so many of us feel. Some of us were raised in homes with parents like your captor. No one ever noticed our suffering or our bruises. Some of our scars are invisible, just like yours. So many chances to be saved, but getting involved would have made them committed to a human being that was not their own. I'm sorry for your suffering. I am thankful you have been able to rebuild your life with your mother and daughters. I understand your desire to avoid publicity and the spot light. No one in their right minds wants to be known for trauma. You put into words so many things that so many of us live with, but words and explanations escape us.
